project overview

Brief:“This short project aims to explore the potential for design to shape how we use our senses to perceive the world, and through which we accumulate sensory knowledge.”
project details & aim:
On a grey Tuesday morning, we explored the London Mithraeum, Monument and had lunch at Borough Market, then we finished at Gabriel’s Pier. We experienced different weather during the day of the visit, so we got more diverse feelings.
In response to the design summary, we narrowed our focus to focusing on perceived changes. We find that the sensory experience changes as the environment change, and it is very interesting to observe this process of change. At week one, we went to these locations again for recording and observation.
my role & learning outcomes:
During the research phase, I played a leading role, especially in terms of synthesizing data and identifying insights with potential design opportunities. I contributed a lot of ideas during the ideation and prototyping stages, during which we explored different ways to track packages. In week 2 the development stages, I worked on the wireframe, as well as the storyboard and script for the concept video.
The main lesson for me as a designer was learning how to gain awareness of how human senses shape human experiences. I learned how to problematize things in a more critical way, rather than smoothing over a problem with a solution that only creates more problems. Working as a team also gave me a better understanding of how experience designers in the industry frame problems and tackle design restraints. I also learned how to demonstrate the ability to use experimental design methods appropriately. Through presentations, I gradually gained the ability to provide design solutions to my peers and articulate ideas from a user's perspective.

research activities & outcomes
Brainstorming:
After completing the road trip we started to brainstorm, everyone wrote down their feelings about the sensory journey.
In the process, we captured some interesting points throughout the whole journey.
Analyze the experience of the journey

Lightness&Darkness:
When entering the subway from the ground, the lights are very dim. However, when we reached the subway platform, the lights suddenly changed, became sharp and bright.
In the Mithraeum museum, We can also feel similar light and dark changes.
In the monument, when we were climbing on the spin stairs, we can barely see the outside since there were only a few windows beside us. When we finally reach the top, the landscape became wide, light and spacious.
The lightness and darkness in the Mithraeum
Sounds and Motions:
The remainder of a subway stop sounds quite unique. When we sat in the subway, the passengers were shaking with the tube together. The Mithras was whispering in old English in the Mithraeum museum, and that brought us back into the time that people believe Mithras has existed. Inside the monument is a magnificent spiral staircase, we rested three times before we finally reached the top with heavy breathing. At Gabriel’s pier, the sounds of water, and also the rain sounds.
We were stepping in the monument:

creative exploration and ideation
Preliminary idea:
We might want to consolidate all visuals, acoustics, movements, and recognitions together. The tactile guide ought to be an adventure like, each progression has its particular agent sensors to us.
We were attempting to make a personalize representatives, which represents us. What we encountered would be performed through our agent. Use video shooting and altering to make a narrating about our voyage.
Prototype:
We've worried about how might we make our "representative"
We assemble a model by utilizing flies from the library. Put a paper on top with a little opening, which can release light inside the triangular. Fizzled. Since the zone of the top was too little to even think about making diverse state of lights. At that point, we chose simply utilize rectangular, simple to make and have the same zone on six surfaces. We made the rectangular emptied with the goal that we can put telephone inside to do the video shooting and the opposite side to the light evolving exhibition.

04 finished!
We've completed our model of "personalization," at that the point we chose to make cards with various states of openings on it, which can speak to various states of lights. Every one of us composed content for our hero's story.

Feedback and Reflection:
Q: The video for the audience to experience is too specific at the beginning but too abstract after.
A: The reason for this video was to let it reflect what we as architects experienced. The music and the visual was to express the impression of each spot.
For the main venture, individuals might want to have an all the more straight forward plan and experience. At the point when we plan the tangible guide, we were reflecting ourselves; be that as it may, we should consider what the genuine "client" who could have never been to those spots, how to let them get what we attempt to express.
