After this project, I feel I learn a lot through the design process. First, user plays a really important role in design process, especially in experience design. Designers need to find the user's needs in order to know which design direction they need to focus on. The right design direction helping users solve problems or improve their lives better. In this project, during our research and observation, we found that the people We found that most people have basically zero knowledge of space junk. Although the current technological level has no way to fundamentally solve the problem of space junk, we believe that humanity can solve this problem someday in the future. which reminds me Why Design is Not Problem Solving + Design Thinking Isn’t Always the Answer?Based on this research,So we designed a space experience for children aged 5-8 hoping to stimulate children's interest in space.
Second, choosing the materials is particularly important in the design process. Different materials have different characteristics, the material will help the design idea to be better displayed, and the suitable material can help a good idea to rise to a new level. In our prototyping process, due to the lock-down rules, we used materials found at home, such as lanterns, fruits, plastic bottles, etc. However, due to material limitations, in the final physical model stage we abandoned the idea of the previous prototype and boldly tried diorama to present our design. The choice of materials has taught us a lot. The plasticity of materials can bring more possibilities to design.
Third, cooperation can help designer to view of the problem in a multi-angle, different professional areas have different understandings of the same thing, sometimes.Although this project unfortunately failed to meet with the team members due to covid-19, we finally completed the project perfectly. Lockdown has brought me new ideas. What will happen to human society in the future? Will it become normal when living independently?
